State finals basketball
A year after Columbus Northland lost several players to major college basketball programs, they found themselves back in the state title hunt. Led by 2011 Mr. Basketball Trey Burke, they made it all the way to the state final game against Cincinnati LaSalle at Ohio State’s Schottenstein Center. LaSalle did a great job of getting under the skin of Northland early, throwing them off their game. Shots stopped falling, Northland lost their cool several times, and LaSalle emerged victorious 59-40.
As a side story, Northland coach Satch Sullinger announced earlier in the season that this would be his last as coach. His son Jared is the star of Ohio State’s team that just lost a heart-breaker to Kentucky in the Sweet 16. As a result of the loss, Jared was on hand to see his dad’s final game.
