DeSales wins state baseball
Columbus St. Francis DeSales qualified for the state baseball tournament without a single senior on the team. I don’t know if that’s ever done before, or if they even thought they had a chance to win, but youth prevailed and the Stallions knocked off Plain City Jonathan Alder and Akron Hoban on consecutive days to win the title. Things got a bit tense with bases loaded and no outs in the final inning of the championship game. A pop out and a force play at home left two runners in scoring position with one out to go. A Hoban line drive up the middle deflected off the DeSales pitchers glove toward the shortstop. He picked it up and fired to first base just in time to beat the runner for the final out. The Stallions celebrated their first baseball title since 1979. Without losing anyone to graduation, check back to this blog in a year or so to see photos of the Stallions winning their second-straight championship.
